A life changed by trauma
Andrew is a father, adventurer, and once-active professional whose life turned upside down after a workplace accident five years ago. The trauma from that day remained long after his physical injuries healed, leaving him feeling as though he’d lost a big part of his identity. Once outgoing and active, Andrew now found himself feeling depressed most days, trapped in a cycle of heavy drinking, and carrying a heavy sense of blame toward his former employer for the life he felt had been taken from him. His struggles reflected the intense impact of trauma and the need for effective post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment to help him rebuild his life.

Setting goals for healing and connection
Despite his struggles, Andrew had hopes for a better future. He came to our Canberra-based hypnotherapy practice, Miracle Minds, with clear goals - he wanted to ‘get back out there’, reconnect with others, and be a role model to his kids. He also missed the adventure sports he once loved, which had brought him joy and a sense of connection. Through hypnotherapy for trauma, he was looking for a way to reclaim the life he once had, and the person he knew he could be.
Starting with Multi-Channel Eye Movement Integration
During our initial assessment, it became clear that Andrew’s symptoms aligned with PTSD, a condition that can deeply disrupt your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. To begin his journey in trauma recovery, we started with Multi-Channel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI), designed to address trauma swiftly by releasing deeply held trauma responses without recounting or reliving the experience.
In just one 20-minute session, Andrew noticed a large reduction in his symptoms, gaining immediate relief from the heavy emotions that had been weighing him down. This step allowed him to access the present moment more freely, without constantly being pulled back into painful memories and emotions.
MEMI is an effective PTSD treatment that can offer rapid and significant relief, setting a strong foundation for further healing.
The shift to treating trauma with hypnotherapy
With his immediate trauma symptoms reduced, we moved to the next stage: hypnotherapy for trauma. For Andrew, four tailored hypnotherapy sessions were designed to help him regain control over his thought patterns and, ultimately, his life. Hypnotherapy allowed Andrew to access his unconscious mind—the part that held onto beliefs, patterns, and associations connected to the trauma he’d experienced.
Through guided visualisations and positive suggestions, he started to see himself in a new light, learning to release blame, address his emotions constructively, and open up to new experiences. This step was crucial in his trauma therapy process, allowing him to break free from old patterns and create healthier ways of engaging with the world.
Transforming and moving forward following hypnosis for trauma
Each hypnotherapy session in our Canberra hypnotherapy practice brought deeper shifts. In these sessions, Andrew could imagine himself actively enjoying life again, participating in adventure sports, socialising, and being present with his children.
These guided images weren’t just hypothetical—they worked to rewire his mind, making these new patterns feel real and achievable. As Andrew began to see himself in these new scenarios, his confidence grew, and his sense of self-worth started to return. The resentment and blame he held toward his former employer subsided, allowing him to focus more on the present and future than on what had happened in the past.
A new chapter of strength and resilience
Today, Andrew’s life looks completely different from the one he led just four to five weeks earlier. He is off the couch and has started reconnecting with friends again. He’s also back in the ocean enjoying the outdoor activities he loves. His kids have noticed the change, too—they see a dad who is fully present and no longer a disconnected spirit living life on the couch.
Andrew’s story is a testament to the power of contemporary trauma therapy where you no longer have to recount your story in search of answers and relief. By addressing the subconscious patterns that held him back through hypnotherapy and PTSD treatment to treat trauma, he found a way to break free and rediscover himself.
If you or someone you know is struggling with trauma, know that change is possible. Hypnotherapy for trauma and trauma-focused therapies like MEMI provide effective tools to help you move forward, offering a way to heal, rebuild, and embrace life with a renewed sense of purpose and hope.
