How hypnotherapy can help with depression
Understanding and treating symptoms of depression
Depression presents itself in various forms and to varying degrees. People can be feeling down, upset or overwhelmed. Some people see these feelings presenting all the time whereas others may only experience them at a particular time of day or when they recount a particular event.
When I discuss a client's struggle, they reflect on the past and can't see a way forward. They now avoid activities they once enjoyed because they don't have the energy, or they avoid the company of others because they don't want people to see them this way.
Most of my clients tell me they know being active can help yet they struggle to motivate themselves. Some find it difficult to remain engaged in daily activities because they don't know where to start or they feel like they just can't do it anymore.
Most often, they have lost the ability to take action to start something or make decisions. They spend more time on their own, consumed with their thoughts, seeking comfort in unhealthy habits that ease the symptoms. Unfortunately, this only serves to deepen the problem.
Hypnotherapy for depression
Many types of therapy can be used to help manage depression and overcome these thoughts and will vary based on the mental health conditions of each individual.
A question that I often see asked is can hypnosis be used to treat depression? The answer is certainly. When using clinical hypnotherapy as a treatment for depression, it is typically delivered over five or more sessions. Through these therapy sessions, I will deal with the thoughts and behaviours that are maintaining your mood by:
-
Recognising your key depressive symptoms
-
Parking people or past events enabling you to focus on the present
-
Enabling you to automatically filter out thoughts and feelings you should be ignoring
-
Motivating you to take action in your everyday life
-
Enabling a relaxation response to keep you grounded throughout the day
-
Overcoming cravings for any unhealthy habits and negative thinking patterns
-
Working in partnership with your GP or mental health professional in an effective treatment plan
