  • Does hypnosis work?
Psychotherapy and hypnosis are extremely effective treatment methods for anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, stress and dependencies and addictions. Each person has the capability to receive hypnotherapy treatment. Professional hypnotherapists can help reframe your thoughts and actions so you can break free of the issues you are facing.
  • Why can't I shake the problem I have?
Like how an aircraft can be flown by autopilot, your thoughts, emotions, and actions are also guided by an autopilot system. This system is known as your subconscious mind, and it is there to protect you. In life, you have encountered many things that have formed memories, most of which you can't recall. These memories also store your behaviours, beliefs, emotions and physical response to the event. When you are faced with a familiar situation, your subconscious mind (acting on autopilot) seeks a familiar approach and retrieves the behaviours, beliefs, emotions, and physical responses you have used before. Although your subconscious mind has good intentions, it cannot choose between what is and what isn’t helpful. It simply recognises that it 'saved you’ last time to it repeats the same pattern to 'save you' again. Despite your efforts to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, willpower alone is not enough to override the autopilot nature of your subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy can give you a new autopilot response to future situations.
  • How much does hypnotherapy cost?
As a professional hypnotherapist, I feel it's important to publish my fees. At Miracle Minds, the initial consultation and standard consultations are $195. However, as an exclusive offer, you can purchase your first 4 sessions as a package for $700 and save 10% on all therapy sessions. For full details, please visit my Fees page.
  • Do I need Medicare or a mental health treatment plan?
You don’t need a mental health treatment plan from your GP to make an appointment to see me. Psychotherapy and hypnotherapy can be used in conjunction with any other professional medical services including a psychologist or psychiatrist. Psychotherapy is not currently covered by Medicare, so you do not need a Medicare card to make an appointment or receive hypnotherapy treatment.
  • What should I expect during a hypnotherapy session?
At the start of each session, we will discuss the thoughts and behaviours you have experienced through the week and note progress against your goals. This also gives us the opportunity to adjust your personalised treatment plan if we need to. When I guide you into a hypnotic state you can expect to feel relaxed and more open to following instructions or suggestions, which is why it is so effective in changing unwanted behaviours. Once the hypnotherapy session is completed, I will provide you with a recording of the hypnosis and ask you to listen to it several times before your next consultation to help reinforce key suggestions. For full details, please visit our blog Inside Hypnotherapy: Step by Step Guide to what really happens in a session.
  • Is hypnotherapy safe and are there any side effects to hypnosis?
Clinical hypnosis therapy is often misunderstood due to its portrayal in stage shows or TV performances where people are made to do outrageous things. Hypnotherapy is a safe practice that aims to reshape thoughts patterns and behaviours that are maintaining your problem. In clinical hypnotherapy, the suggestions I give during the session are intended to reshape negative thought patterns and bring about change in your daily behaviours. You remain in full control throughout the session, and you will only take on the suggested changes I give that resonate with you. There are no side effects to hypnotherapy although most people end a session feeling deeply relaxed!
  • How long does hypnotherapy take?
Initial consultations are 90 minutes and standard follow-up consultations are 45 minutes. How many sessions a person may need depends on the individual, however most clients only need four to five sessions. During your consultation, we will discuss a wide range of topics, and when it comes to the actual hypnosis session, they typically last between 20 to 25 minutes. I will also record the session and ask you to listen to it several times before your next consultation. This is important as it helps embed key messages for the changes you are seeking. Of course, everybody is human and it’s ok to struggle on your path to healing. If we need to get you to your feet if you stumble, you may only need a top up session or two. For full details, please visit our blog Inside Hypnotherapy: Step by Step Guide to what really happens in a session.
  • What is eye movement therapy?
When we recall the images, thoughts and feelings about something, our eyes tend to move unconsciously to different locations within our visual field. For instance, when you try and recall an image from the past, you will tend to look up and to the left; if you’re trying to paint an image of the future, you will tend to look up and to the right. Why don’t you try that for yourself now? Eye movement therapy involves guiding your eyes through various locations in your visual field while you visualise an image or focus on a feeling from a previous event. By interrupting your recall through the movement of your eyes, the images, thoughts and feelings about the event are desensitised. The memory isn't erased, but you no longer react to it. I use a revolutionary new form of eye movement therapy called Multi-Channel Eye Movement Integration. This means I don’t need you to tell me any details about what happened to you. If recalling an image from the event is too distressing, I use a technique called resource anchoring to offset any chance of you reliving the event. • What is hypnotherapy and how does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique to facilitate deep relaxation, focused attention, and heightened suggestibility. We call this a trance state, and everyone can get there! Once I guide you into this trance state, I utilise suggestion therapy, visualisation and guided imagery to reframe negative thought patterns, reinforce positive behaviours and promote the desired changes in your autopilot. Hypnotherapy can be a useful tool to help treat several health conditions including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD as well as addictive habits and dependencies such as smoking, gambling, and drinking.
  • Do you have online hypnotherapy sessions?
Yes, I offer both online and in-person sessions located in Dickson, ACT. Contact me today and schedule a free 15-minute phone call where you can explain the change you are seeking, and I can explain how hypnotherapy can help.
  • What will I experience with hypnosis?
Everyone will experience hypnotherapy differently, but most people tell me they finish a session feeling deeply relaxed. While this feels good, the true power of hypnotherapy comes from the change in thought patterns, emotions and behaviours people experience when they return to everyday life.
  • How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
Although you will notice positive changes after just one session, I generally recommend 3 to 5 sessions to achieve long term results. The number of sessions required may vary depending on the specific challenges or issues you are facing. This will be discussed as a part of your initial consultation.
  • Why should I choose you as my therapist?
It's amazing how transformative therapies like hypnotherapy can be in improving overall wellbeing. More than a decade ago, I underwent hypnotherapy to confront my claustrophobia which had become so debilitating I dreaded sitting in a cinema. This marked the start of my journey to becoming a clinical hypnotherapist. As a veteran and former senior executive, I have encountered the triumphs and challenges that accompany these responsibilities. My knowledge and experience have influenced the therapeutic methods I employ in my practice, allowing me to connect with individuals facing similar challenges. I hold a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy and maintain my accreditation to practice through the Hypnotherapy Council of Australia.
