How hypnotherapy can help with anxiety
Understanding anxiety and its companion problems
Many of my clients may not directly label their struggles as anxiety. Often, they present with companion problems to anxiety such as weight gain, insomnia, stress, anger issues, or dependencies to take the edge off. These are all areas where hypnotherapy for anxiety disorder can be beneficial.
Recognising the patterns and feelings of anxiety
When running a pattern of anxiety, people often feel it's being done to them. Some of the common things I hear are 'I have a stressful job', 'It happened to me as a child' and 'I have always been an anxious person'. These statements highlight the need for hypnosis to overcome past traumas and reduce anxiety long term.
Their inner voice often tells them 'I know what people are thinking' or 'I know what's going to happen here', and they have an uncanny knack of finding what they are always looking for. Add to that, the time spent worrying about what might happen and crystal-balling worst-case scenarios it’s hard to find the right type of therapy when in this state. This is when a hypnotherapy treatment plan for stress and anxiety can help.
Avoidance and comfort seeking behaviours
Without anxiety treatment, people can start avoiding people or things they perceive as provoking their anxiety and perhaps even finish their day with something unhealthy that brings comfort. In such cases, hypnotherapy can be a beneficial treatment.
Hypnosis therapy for anxiety
Treating anxiety with hypnosis is typically delivered over four to five sessions. Clinical hypnotherapy for anxiety targets the thoughts and behaviours that are driving anxiety by:
-
Enabling you to filter out thoughts and feelings that are impacting your daily life
-
Parking people or past events enabling you to focus on the present
-
Overriding feelings of discomfort and uncertainty enabling you to deal with boundary setting, difficult conversations and conflict
-
Enabling a relaxation response to keep you grounded throughout the day
-
Overcoming cravings for any unhealthy habits
Unlike talk therapy, hypnosis encourages helpful cognitive, emotional or physical responses that your brain absorbs and will become your new autopilot.
